Silver slowly darkens as it meets air, skin and moisture. This is natural, and with a little care your piece will stay beautiful for years.
Your piece is made from sterling silver 925: 92.5% pure silver with a small amount of copper for strength. Over time, silver reacts with air, skin and moisture and slowly darkens. This is natural, and with a little care your piece will stay beautiful for years.
Many Kagenoishi pieces have an oxidised finish: the recesses and textures, like the dragon scales, are intentionally darkened to bring out the depth of the design. Please don’t try to remove it. Polish only the raised, shiny surfaces.
Put your jewellery on after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take it off first.
before swimming (pools, sea), showering, sauna, sports, the gym, cleaning and sleeping.
Chlorine, bleach, household cleaners and acetone can damage silver and the oxidised finish.
Gentle contact with skin keeps silver bright. Pieces left in a drawer tarnish faster.
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Light tarnish | Gently rub the raised surfaces with a silver polishing cloth. |
| Everyday dirt | Wash in warm water with a drop of mild soap, use a soft brush for textured areas, rinse and dry completely with a soft cloth. |
| Avoid | Silver dips and liquid cleaners, toothpaste, baking soda, ultrasonic cleaners and abrasive cloths on oxidised areas. They will strip the dark finish and scratch the surface. |
